Our Journey

How did we get here?

Burleigh Brewing opened in 2006

It all started with a cause. A passion. Wrapped up in a philosophical heartbeat. It still drives us, it hasn’t changed. It’s central to every important decision we make. We were (and are!) so passionate about it, we were willing to risk everything to pursue it.

Fresh from a decade in the American craft beer market and selling our share in our first brewing endeavour in Hawaii, we brought our combined skills of brewing and business back home. We were on a mission to shake things up, to bring real choice to the beer drinkers of Queensland. All the while building a business that acts a certain way, feels a certain way and leaves a certain impact.

Back in 2006, with a young family in tow, our only choice was to get stuck in together. Burleigh Brewing was, quite literally, built by hand, with love, and at the time, became the only independent production brewery in Queensland.

“Overnight growth” across ten years

In 2007 we sold our first beers – a European lager, an American pale ale and a mid-strength lager. Gradually, word spread. One. Tastebud. At. A. Time. Those early days were tough!

In 2010 we won our first World Beer Championship gold medals for Burleigh 28 Pale Ale, Burleigh My Wife’s Bitter and Burleigh Black Giraffe. Expansion projects began and, over a decade, we tripled the size of the original facility until we could expand no further in our original site.

2015 marked another choice – to ‘put a lid on it’ or to build from scratch, all over again. Together with our team, we chose the latter.

Only a few hundred metres from our original home, we now occupy two separate sites – a main location housing our Burleigh Taphouse and all our brewing and packaging operations and just a few doors down, a second building and super-sized cold room housing all our raw materials and finished beer.

So here we are …

We are proud to remain independently owned and family run.

We are a strong, ever-growing team of more than 50, brewing a well-established core range of beers and a new limited release almost every week. We’ve clocked up 25 x World Championship Gold Medals and we don’t plan on slowing down any time soon.

As a team, we live our passion every day. And we love bringing communities together to celebrate others living theirs.
