World Class

Local Beer

While we like to let our customers be the judge, sometimes we let judges be the judge. To keep pushing our own very high standards, we often pit our beers against the best in the world.

We’re proud that our beers consistently earn Gold Medals at the World Beer Championships. Some have been awarded a few silvers too, which would feel more impressive if they hadn’t won all that gold. Plus HEF was recognised as the best German Style Wheat Beer at the 2012 World Beer Cup (think of it as the Olympics of beer) which basically means we out-Germaned the Germans.

We’re grateful for a bunch of local recognition for our beers too – Best of Show at the RNA Royal Queensland Beer Awards and Best Queensland Beer more than once, plus a swag of Australian International Beer Awards.

28

A Californian style classic

You need a good amount of balance to ride a wave. So imagine how much you’d need to ride one for 28 days straight. Yup. That’s what you’re in for with this little beauty.

28 immortalises the rare 28-day swell that amazed Burleigh Heads in 1975.

Experience

Burleigh Brewing 28 boasts a light orange colour and a fragrant bouquet. It is a medium-bodied beer with masterfully balanced hoppiness. In a nod to the hopping regimes pioneered in California in the 70’s, 28 boasts a complex, fruity character – citrus, grapefruit, passionfruit and lychee – and yet brewed from only malted barley, water, hops and yeast.

Style

California Pale Ale (filtered, 4.8% abv)

Ingredients

Malted barley, American hops, yeast and water

Awards

Gold Medal, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2010, World Beer Championships,
Silver Medal 2013 and 2011 World beer Championships

Food Match

Burleigh Brewing 28  pairs well with duck, pork, beef and lamb – the perfect match for a spicy Moroccan lamb, if you can handle a little heat!

Hassle Hop

Hassle Hop

Epic Co-hoperation

Apparently, there are two sides to every argument. But when five of our brewers got together to debate their favourite hops, not surprisingly, there were five sides. Not quite a cube, but almost. So rather than take sides, we decided to create a brew that combines them all.

Hassle Hop strikes a balance that brings out the best characteristic of each hop, without compromising the others. Quite the hassle really. But oh so worth it.

Experience

Hassle Hop boasts a luscious fruit maltiness that is further enhanced by the tropical hop characters from a blend of 5 complementary hops. At 5.5% abv Hassle Hop is big on hop flavour and aroma, delivered with sessionable balance.

Style

Session IPA (filtered, 5.5% abv)

Ingredients

Malted barley, hops, yeast and water

Awards

Gold Medal, 2015, 2014 & 2013 World Beer Championships

Food Match

The hop flavour and aromas in Hassle Hop pair wonderfully with robust dishes – particularly meat with a little bit of heat – but will not overwhelm lighter options.

Figjam

Every bit as good as it thinks it is

Traditionally, India Pale Ales (IPAs) were brewed extra strong and hoppy to last the long journey by boat from England to India. These days, we brew ours that way because we love it.

And, you know, for history and nostalgia…

Experience

The incredible balance of Burleigh Brewing FIGJAM belies its 7.0% abv and 70IBU IPA statistics. The fine balance of malt, hops and alcohol is deftly managed through five separate hopping phases, delivering the classic IPA characters of floral hop aromas and a distinctive hop character on the finish. All the ‘punch’ of an IPA, carefully delivered with Burleigh Brewing’s trademark balance.

Style

India Pale Ale (filtered, 7.0% abv)

Ingredients

Five natural hop varieties, five malted barley varieties, yeast and water

Awards

Gold Medal, 2016, 2014, 2013 & 2012 World Beer Championships

Food Match

The robust flavour of Burleigh Brewing FIGJAM makes it an excellent food beer – pairing well with succulent meats and stinky cheeses. It is also a joy to savour on its own.

My Wife's Bitter

She’s also quite possessive

You could say it takes a special kind of love for a man to brew a beer in honour of his wife.

And it has been suggested to us that it must take a special kind of woman to not remove that man’s head from his shoulders when he calls it, “My Wife’s Bitter”. Thankfully in this instance the apostrophe is possessive (as is the woman for whom it was first brewed, who LOVES everything about it). So this is actually a love story after all. Inspired by love, and the traditional English pub classic, we’ve created a coastal version of this timeless brew that’s as refreshing in summer as it is comforting in winter.

Experience

Styled after England’s ‘session beer’, Burleigh Brewing’s coastal version of a classic English bitter is brewed with a unique blend of English specialty malts that generate a smooth, malty flavour – with a hint of ‘nuttiness’ and a soft caramel character. The combination of traditional English hops lends a finely balanced aroma.

Style

English Ale (filtered, 4.8% abv)

Ingredients

English malt, hops, yeast and water

Awards

Gold Medal, 2016, 2014 and 2010 World Beer Championships,
Silver Medal 2013 World Beer Championship

Food Match

Burleigh Brewing My Wife’s Bitter matches well with robust meats such as duck, beef and lamb. Anything with nuts will also compliment well, while the soft caramel notes lend nicely to dessert pairing.

HEF

Those in the know insist on the Mo

HEF (short for Hefeweizen) is our salute to the classic German-style, unfiltered wheat beer.

While the homage was flattering at first, things have been a bit awkward ever since we started edging out actual German-made wheat beers in international award competitions.

Now, HEF is one of our most highly awarded beers – which helped inspire the phrase ‘those in the know, insist on the mo’.

Experience

Burleigh Brewing HEF boasts the classic German wheat beer characteristics of banana and clove, rich flavours, a bright white head and a smooth, creamy texture. It is an unfiltered, refreshing, flavour-filled beer without being overpowering.

Style

Hefeweizen (German Style Wheat Beer) (unfiltered, 5.0% abv)

Ingredients

Malted wheat, malted barley, German hops, yeast and water

Awards

Gold Medal, 2012 World Beer Cup; 2011 World Beer Championships.

Bighead

A big idea that happened

Have you ever been kicking around with your mates, half-daydreaming about stuff you could/should do when someone mentions something that seems so outrageous that you just have to have a crack at it?

We reckon that’s how man first landed on the moon. It’s also an approximate explanation of the genesis of Bighead. Brewing a full-flavoured, full-strength beer with no carbs seemed impossible. But just because nobody had done it before, it didn’t mean it couldn’t be done (at least not to us). And the result is something we’re truly proud of. Not that we’re getting a big head about it.

Experience

Burleigh Brewing Bighead is a full-flavoured, full-strength beer that is 100% natural and boasts a clean, crisp taste. With zero carbs and only 88 calories per bottle, Bighead is brewed traditionally, with an innovative twist. The depth of flavour will surprise you.

Style

No Carb Lager (filtered, 4.2% abv)

Ingredients

Malted barley, hops, yeast and water

Awards

Silver Medal, 2011and 2009 World Beer Championships

Food Match

This lager will accompany any meal easily, from a hearty pub lunch to a dish of French delicacies, Bighead isn’t fussy!

Duke

If you’re not a local you probably won’t get it

That’s not an in-joke, by the way.

We created Duke Premium in honour of Europe’s proud brewing history, which means you’ll only be able to find this particular brew within one day’s horse and cart ride of our brewery – an area we call, “Dukeland”. So, until we get faster horses, if you live outside that radius, we’re afraid you’ll have to come and get it for yourself.

You might think this makes Duke Premium Lager a bit elitist. Truth is, when you’ve created something this special you want to save it for those who are closest to you. We might be biased, and we probably do have a soft spot for this, our first-born Burleigh Brewing beer, but we honestly believe it’s the ultimate expression of balance, character and soul.

Experience

Burleigh Brewing Duke Premium Lager is a filtered lager boasting the classic, malt-driven flavours of continental European beers. With Personality. The hop and malt characteristics are finely balanced, providing a clean, refreshing palate with a superb dry, crisp finish. And the luscious, foamy head will last all the way to the bottom of the glass.

Style

Premium Lager (filtered, 4.8% abv)

Ingredients

Malted barley, European hops, yeast and water

Awards

Gold Medal, 2015 & 2014 World Beer Championships,
Silver medal 2013 World Beer Championship

Food Match

The balanced flavours of Burleigh Brewing Duke Premium Lager will complement anything from a backyard BBQ to a fine gourmet meal.

Duke Helles

A mid that’s anything but average

The word compromise is usually synonymous with mid-strength beers. Often, you’re missing out on something – usually body and flavour.

Not so with our Duke Helles. Uniquely, it’s a mid-strength beer brewed the natural, craft way. It is brewed to strength with no artificial ingredients or tricks to achieve its lower alcohol content. In other words, it‘s not just a watered down full strength brew. Like it’s full-strength brother however, it shares the tradition of remaining close to the brewery. So, again, apologies to those further afield, but you’ll only find this one in Dukeland.

Experience

A German pale lager with a slightly maltier character than the perhaps better known pilsner style. No artificial ingredients or crafty tricks are used to reduce the alcohol content – just traditional brewing techniques and time. The moderate hopping contributes a comfortable bitterness and a clean, refreshing taste with fresh, floral highlights that hint at its European pedigree.

Style

Mid Strength Lager (filtered, 3.5% abv)

Ingredients

Malted barley, European hops, yeast and water

Awards

Silver Medal, 2014, 2013, 2011 & 2009 World Beer Championships

Food Match

Burleigh Brewing Duke Helles’ clean fresh flavours lend well to pairing with your favourite seafood.
