The Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA) People's Choice Award is a fan-voted prize celebrating local talent,recently won by Lecia Louise at the 2025 awards, who captivated voters with her music and connection.
We caught up with Lecia off the back of her win. Congratulations on wining the People’s Choice award! How are you feeling about the win?
It was unexpected but it was quite the honour to be awarded the People’s Choice Award as I’ve been based here for such a long time.
How would you describe your music to someone who might not have heard you yet
I would describe it as guitar driven rock and blues with an edge of country, a touch of soul and improv.
What are some of your musical influences?
It’s a very long list from different points in time throughout my musical life from the beginning, the middle and now. The beginning influences were Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix, and Neil Young. A lot of local talent as well that I have interacted and played with over the years. Late 60s early 70s rock as well. Yeah, that era is a big influence on my music.
What draws you to music?
I think music came to me. It was an attraction both ways, and a natural part of my being. I could probably communicate better through music. I wasn’t much of a maths or English type of person. Music was always easier for me to do and I loved the sound of the guitar when I first picked it up. It just sprung out little bright sort of sound that jumped out and still love it.
